7/05/01;CITY WIN VARIETY TROPHY FINAL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chester finally achieved something in their 1st season in the Conference.Chester beat Kingstonian 4-2 on penaltys.The game was still deadlocked after extra time,Kingtonian having a player sent off after 80 mins,but City couldnt capitalise on the home side being reduced to ten men.Wayne Brown made the crucial save in the penalty shoot out.
BLUES LOSE TO CHAMPIONS
Chester lost to champions Rushden and Diamonds 2-1 at home in the final Conference league game of the season.In front of the biggest crowd of the season(4040)City took the lead after 58 mins with a CRAIG GAUNT header.The lead was short lived as centre back MARK PETERS equalised after 60 mins.Rushden won the game on 89 mins with a 25 yarder from BRADY.
The City faithful started the day witha protest march from the Kwik Save,along Bumpers Lane to the ground.A coffin headed the march symbolising the slow death of our club by owner Smith.Rushden fans showed their support by joining the march.
Kettering joined Kingstonian & Hednesford as the third relegated side.
Rushden replace Barnet in Div 3 as Torquay beat the Bees 3-2 at Underhill.
4/5/01,JOIN THE MARCH
The football takes a back seat tomorrow as Chester supporters unite in a final bid to push out our "Madman Chairman Smith".
The day begins with a March from the Kwik Save with a coffin to the ground.Fans will be meeting at app 1.45pm and the march to the ground will start at 2.00pm.
When at the ground will join hands around the Stadium.Smith showed his face on Thursday night, much to the displeasure of the crowd,but left the stadium early.Come every one lend your support and reunite the fans of our club.We cant afford to have another season like the last few.
The ISA evening is at the Royal Mail club tomorrow evening any one wanting tickets,see one of the ISA committee members at tomorrows game.
3/05/01;CITY REACH VARIETY FINAL
Chester reached the final of the N/wide Variety Trophy at the Deva tonight beating Nuneaton Boro 2-1 after extra time.CHRIS BLACKBURN gave City the lead after 3 mins.Nuneaton had a player sent off just before half time and then equalised on 45 mins.
DARREN WRIGHT came on as sub and scored the winner in extra time(112 mins).
City now play Kingstonian away in the final,on Bank Holiday monday.(Kick Off 7.45pm)
2/5/01,BROWNIE BREAKS PLAYERS SILENCE
Wayne Brown told the Evening Leader tonight the only reason why he's on the transfer list.His only reason is Terry Smith.Wayne said that he couldn't work under him any more as the moral is now at an all time low.Also that he's the semi England Keeper but one of the worst paid players in the Conference.Brownie added that he coundn't believe that Smith took some of the praise as Browns performances had improved as Graham Barrow and Grenville Millington had done all the work.Wayne also added that Graham Barrow was the main reson that the club had done so well for so long this season,but as Smith continually interfered in team selection and training ground activities the job became increasingly difficult.
A Bit of gossip today,Phil Davies is set to fly out to America to continue talks with Gerald Smith as it was Terry Smith that kept calling off the take over bid.Gerald Smith is set to come back with him at the weekend to hopefully finalise a deal.
City play Nuneaton tomorrow evening in the N/wide Variety Trophy at The Deva,the winners playing relegated Kingstonian in the final.A date is yet to be arranged.
Rushden have gained promotion to the football league after Yeovil losing 3-2 at home to Hereford last night.
The protest march on saturday before the Rushden game is set to start at the Kwik Save at approx 2.00pm.A slow march to the ground with a coffin will end with supporters making a human ring around the stadium.
1/05/01;CHESTER 3 SCARBORO 2
City finally scored after more than 4 1/2 hours.
But it was the visitors that started the better
of the 2 sides.Woods gave away a penalty on 33 mins,
but Priestley was glad to see the spot kick
go high over the cross bar.Scarboro did take
the lead though after 41 mins,Scott Jordan the
scorer.NEIL FISHER equalised on the stroke of
half time to put the Blues back in the game.
Jamie Burt put the visitors back in front on
55 mins,only to see MARK BEESLEY fire home a
minute later to level the scores once again.
Substitute MATTY DOUGHTY fired home the winner
with a 25 yard free kick,with the help of a
deflection(75 mins).
The rumours at the Deva tonight seemed to be that
the Smith riegn could be over by the weekend as
Smith Senior is back in the country tomorrow(Hopefully!)
28/04/01,CITY UNLUCKY TO LOSE.
WOKING 1 CHESTER 0
Chester will count themselves a little unlucky at
Woking today.The Blues found Woking Goalkeeper
Mattassa in great form.City should of been 3-0
up at half time,Mark Beesley with the best of
the chances.City also dominated most of the
second period as well with Wright hitting the
cross bar,until on the 88th minute when a
Charlie Griffin header beat Phil Priestley.
Following that Lancaster hit a post and Beesley
again was foiled by Mattassa.
The travelling Blues were once again a credit to
the club,with their very vocal support was
mainly aimed at the stay away chairman.
Keeper Wayne Brown was missing from the starting
line up as he was involved in car accident.
26/04/01
Chester sent Kingstonian down to the Ryman
Premier tonight.Both sides missed a penalty
in the 0-0 draw at The Deva.
The ever popular!!Jimmy Glass saving
Whitehalls spot kick on 55mins & Citys
substitute keeper Phil Priestley saving a spot
kick on 68 mins.Mark Beesley should of wrapped
up the points for Chester but his close range
effort beating Glass but hitting the post
with 15 mins to go.Smiths at it again in a
statement to the press,Smith puts all the blame
on the playing staff for not winning
promotion or the Umbro Cup,Stateing that they
have the best wages,facilitys and are full time
players.He also added that finishing below part
time teams in the league and losing to a part
time team in the Umbro cup was unexceptable.
But the worst part of the press release seems
to be that he's staying to build a side for next
season.How many of us can stand another season
of this fool,I'll bet it's not many!!.
As Wayne Brown finally seen the light,
Browny didnt come out for the second half,
anyone got any info on that??
24/04/01 CITY HAMMERED AT ROCKINGHAM RD.
A Darren Collins hatrick seen off a very poor
Chester at Rockingham Road tonight.
City were 2-0 down after 6 mins,the first goal
(4mins) a dreadful mistake by Wayne Brown,
rolling the ball out for an attempted clearance,
straight to Collins who hit home from the edge of
the area.Collins struck again on 6 mins to
make it 2-0.Kettering had enough clear cut scoring
chances to go in at half time at least 4-0 up.
Soon after the break Dale Watkins made it
3-0(54mins) & Collins rounded up the hatrick
on the hour mark.It was evident to see
that Kettering were desperate for the points and
the tormoil at The Deva is badly effecting
the City players.Paul Carden once again was
the only player to hold his head high after this
display,his never say die attitued is an
example to the rest.
21.04/01;THE TAKE OVER DEAL IS STILL ON
The take over deal is still on according to
tonights Evening Leader.Phil Davies also
said in Sundays Non League paper that he had only
taken a step back to re-evalute the situation,
but is still very interested in buying the club.
Paul Beesley may by suspended by the club
for failing to follow manager Graham Barrows
instructions when City lost at home to
Canvey.He will miss the remainder of the
season and take on a scouting role
instead.Beesley was unable to comment on
the decision as all members of staff have
been banned from talking to the press by Smith.
21/04/01,WOODS EARNS CITY POINT
Chester just about scaped a point in a very
close game Vs 3rd place Dagenham & Redbridge.
The Londoners took the lead after 60 mins.
MATTY WOODS equalised late on with a header
over keeper Roberts.Both sides had good chances
to win the game with City hitting the woodwork
in the first half & Neil Fishers effort
just the wrong side of Roberts right hand post.
The visitors had the ball in the net for the
second time,but MacDougals header was ruled
offside.The game was overshadowed by a day of
protest from the City faithfull in the recent
tormoil caused by Chairman Smith.Barrie Hipkiss
also deserved his standing ovation for all the
work he has done for the club only to be banned
from his duties this week by Smith.
Also today the latest rumour from The Deva is
that "allegedly" both David Kerr & Dean Spink
have been fit to play for a number of weeks but
Smith has held them back as he is still recieving
insurance payments for injury on both players.
20/04/01 BARRIE HIPKISS BANNED
Barrie Hipkiss is the latest in a long line of
City employees to be pushed out by
"DEMOCRATIC LEADER" Madman Smith.
This one is the icing on the cake.
It just beats me how anyone can treat Mr Hipkiss
this way after all the work he has done for
the club.
Barrie's crime was telling the
Evening Leader that he didnt think Smiths
Democratic Supporters club would work!
I.S.A meeting next monday at the Royal Mail Club(7.30pm)
Also tonight "GAP Recruitment" have decided not
to sponsor City for a second season.I wonder why?
Well done to everyone who went to Leigh last
night for the continuous dissaproval of
our "Madman" Chairman in the second half.
18/04/01 WRIGHT MAKES IT 2 IN A ROW
Chester recorded their 2nd win in 2 days after
beating Leigh 1-0 away.Chris Blackburn hit
the bar and Whitehall had a goal dissallowed
for offside before DARREN WRIGHT scored a
cracker from 25 yds on 28 mins.
City hung on for the 2nd half in which Matt Woods
was outstanding at the heart of the defence.
17/04/01;MADMAN SMITH TO STAY!
Chairman Smith has tonight told the Evening Leader
that the deal with a Liverpool consortium
is off.He's now decided to let the fans have
an equal say in how the club is run,giving
every fan a vote on major decisions at the club.
First off, there is a proposed meeting at
The Deva next Monday evening,with a veiw of
introducing the "Chester City FC Democratic
Supportes Assc"(He's gone completly mad this time)
with 3 main rules stipulating no argueing and
the final vote count carries the outcome of every
discussed point.(But I'll bet it's cancelled
before then!!).after being promised of
proposed monthly meetings,I personally
can't remember one since Ian Atkins joined the club.
I really thought his reign at our club was
coming to an end and we as supporters of
this club could get back to some normality and
aim on returning to the league.
This has set us back once again,with possibly
another manager,with a new squad of players
who will take till next Xmas to gel and by that time
it will be another season wasted.
16/04/01
City got back to winning ways at Stevenage Boro
this afternoon.The Blues took an early
lead,NEIL FISHER scoring after 4 mins.
The home side equalised midway through the first
half.DARREN WRIGHT restored Citys lead just
before half time(44mins).
Chester managed to hang on in the second half
dispite having CRAIG GAUNT sent off after
50 mins.
Chester now travel to Leigh on Wednesday evening
(Kick Off 7.45pm)
Also today,CARL RUFFER & CHRIS BLACKBURN are two
of a suspected ten players to ask for transfers.
Stewards held a meeting after the Forest Green game
threatening to resign,putting the Dag & Red
game in doubt.
The rumours from the ground are that SMITH is
stalling selling the club waiting to see the out
come of the LUKE BECKETT affair.
Lukes transfer value has supposed to have
increased,which could benefit City (or Smith,
depending were the money ends up!)if Chesterfield
ever pay up.
The Merseyside businessman involved in the take
over bid was at The Deva on saturday,
But Smith was missing.The businessman is an ex
City apprentice who's family are lifelong City fans.
He has Austrian backers and has been locked
in talks with Smith for the past 6 weeks.(So come
on Terry do us all a favour and BUGGER OFF!!)
So we can carry on supporting a club we love
dearly & lets hope the next owner isnt as dodgy
as the past few!.
*************************************************
14/04/01
Chester lost at home to Conference strugglers
Forest Green Rovers in another dreadful
performance at The Deva this afternoon.
Matt Doughtys attempted clearance ended up
in the back of the net on 68 mins.
Citys only reply was a Steve Whitehall header
that hit the left hand post.
Rumours around the ground at the end of the
game were that the deal to sell the club had
fallen through & that Manager Graham Barrow
was about to resign.
To add to that 3 players are supposed to
have requested to be placed on the transfer list
(Sorry no names available at the moment).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

New owners may be installed before tomorrows
Variety Cup Northern Final at home to Nuneaton
Boro on Tuesday evening.It was believed that
Smith was staying on to lead the team out at
Villa Park,but after saturdays defeat the
season is virtually over.
Protests at Saturdays game may push the
Chairman to go now rather than prolong the agony.

7/04/01
Canvey Island & Forest Green will both be at
Villa Park for the Umbro Trophy Cup Final.
City went down 2-0(Agg4-0)at home to Canvey,
goals from Steve Parmenter(30 mins) & Mark
Stimson(60 mins winning the game for the Thamesiders.
While Hereford lost 4-1(Agg6-3) at home to
Forest Green Rovers.

Chris Blackburn & Steve Whitehall look set to
start in tomorrows Umbro Trophy cup tie vs
Canvey at the Deva.The only doubt is Carl
Ruffer,but Mark Beesley & Andy Porter face late
fitness tests.
Probable Team;Brown,Fisher,Woods,Lancaster,
Beesley P,Doughty,Carden,Porter,Blackburn,
Beesley M,Whitehall.

Children 5.00 & 4.00

City won the toss for home advantage in the
N/wide Variety Trophy Northern Final.
Due to fixture back log the Conference have
decided to play the regional finals as one game
and not two legs.Chester play Nuneaton Boro
next Tuesday evening at The Deva.
Nuneaton have lost both league games against
City this season,4-0 at The Deva & 2-1 at Nuneaton.
The winners will play either Yeovil or
Kingstonian from the southern section final.

Chester drew 1-1 away at Dover this evening.
Shearer scored for Dover just before half time
& Stevie Whitehall equalised after 47 mins.
Chris Blackburn played his first 90 mins after
returning from injury.

Nuneaton beat Morecambe 2-0 in the Variety trophy
Northern section semi final.
City now play Nuneaton on the 10th April.
The venue is not known yet.

Carl Ruffer will be missing from the City line
up tonight.Ruffer suffered again with a hamstring
injury at Canvey on saturday.
He's also doubtful for the return leg this
weekend.Also missing tonight are Wayne Brown
(shoulder)Mark Beesley(foot)Paul Carden(foot)
& Matt Doughty will be rested.
In to the side will come Phil Preistly,
Lee Woodyatt & a possible return for Chris
Blackburn.Steve Whitehall returns to the side
after only a subs appearance at Canvey & Jimmy
Haarhoff could also return.
Team from;Preistley,Moss,Woodyatt,Lancaster,
Woods,Beesley P,Blackburn,Porter, Whitehall,
Haarhoff,Fisher,Carden,Wright,Beesley M,Gaunt,
Ruscoe.

Chester have an uphill struggle next saturday in
the 2nd leg of the Umbro Trophy Semi Final at
The Deva.City were out played at Park Lane and
were lucky only to lose 2-0.Only the heroics
of Goalkeeper Wayne Brown kept the score down.
Carl Ruffer went off injured and was replaced by
Craig Gaunt.Citys defence looked very shakey
from then on and on 28 mins ex Southend
striker Steve Tilson opened the scoring.
Then after 73 mins ex Spurs youngter Wayne
Vaughan made it 2-0.Canvey had at least 4 or 5
good opportunities to put this tie out of Chesters
reach.Citys best chances fell to Matt Doughty,
who when though on goal squared the ball to
Woods who wasted the chance.Although this tie
is not over yet,on this showing City will find
it very hard to reduce this deficite at
The Deva next saturday.Graham Barrow said today
in the Non League Paper that Chester were embarrassing
and couldnt of picked a inopportune time to
turn out the the worst performance of the season.

According to the Canvey FC website the prices
for saturdays game are going to be increased
to 12.00 for adults and 8.00 for children.
(Hednesford once again!)

TELFORD 3 CHESTER 0

Chester lost 3-0 at crisis club Telford last
night,two first half goals from Chris Malkin
(14 mins) & Steve Palmer(39 mins)gave City a
mountain to climb in the second half.
Steve Whitehall had a good header saved and Scott
Ruscoes curling shot hit the post.
But on 68 mins Gez Murphy broke away as City
pushed forward and sealed the points for
the home side.Chester rested Doughty & Mark
Beesley,also Carl Ruffer was missing with injury.
The rest of the side though seemed to
have Canvey Island in the backs of their minds!!

Chester ended their dismal run with a 2-1 win
away at Nuneaton Boro.City went 1-0 down after
5 mins when Shaun Wray scored from 10yds.
Mark Beesley equalised after 13 mins after
Nuneaton keeper McKenzie dropped a Whitehall shot.
Steve Whitehall himself scored the
winner after 30 mins,Whitehall finding himself
with acres of space from a Ruscoe pass beat
the keeper with his left foot drive.
Paul Beesley gave away a penalty just before
half time(hand ball),with Wayne Brown saving
the spot kick.Chester spent most of the second
half defending,with Brown,Moss & Ruffer
outstanding.

Nice to see no segragation at Nuneaton,with both
sets of supporters very vocal,but all good humour!.

Chester are hoping to take 800+ to the Umbro Semi
Final at Canvey Island.Canvey are hoping
for a 3000 crowd,but it will not be all ticket.

Carl Ruffer & Paul Beesley will join Wayne Brown
in the Semi England squad for Thursdays game
in Holland.All three will return on Friday for
Chesters game 24 hours later away at Nuneaton Boro.

City produced another below par performance in
a week as bottom of the table Hednesford took
all 3 points with a late penalty.
Chester had chances to win the game,Whitehall
had two good headers well saved by the visitors
keeper Mark Gayle in the first half and he
also stopped a Mark Beesley effort midway
through the second.City now play away at
Nuneaton on Friday evening and hope to end
this dismal run.
